Okra Also known as ladies finger, this vegetable of African origin is a narrow, 5 sided seed pod, pointed at one end and containing small white seeds; it has a gelatinous quality when it is cooked. Onion The familiar and popular onion is a bulb of Allium cepa, a low growing plant. Botanists classify it in either the lily family or the amaryllis family.  
Oregano Mediterranean Oregano is the dried leaf of Origanum vulgare L., a perennial herb in the mint family. Mexican Oregano is the dried leaf of one of several plants of the Lippia genus.  
Oyster sauce Thick brown sauce made from oysters and soy sauce. Used to enhance flavor or as a dip. Although it is made from oysters and soy sauce, it does not have a fishy taste. Keeps indefinitely in the refrigerator.
