Dutch Forcemeat Balls Recipe


Ingredients : Makes about 40 balls

500 g minced steak

1 tablespoon butter

1 small onion, chopped finely

1/2 cup soft white breadcrumbs

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper, ground

2 teaspoons fresh dill, chopped

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, ground

1/4 teaspoon cloves, ground

1 clove garlic, crushed

1/2 teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger

2 teaspoons lemon juice

1 egg, beaten

Dry breadcrumbs for coating

Oil for deep frying


Method :

Heat up a small wok with butter and fry the onion gently until soft. Remove and combine the onion with minced steak, salt, pepper, breadcrumbs, chopped dill, cloves, garlic, cinnamon, ginger and lemon juice. Mix well and shape into small balls about the size of a golf ball. Dip the balls into the beaten egg and coat with the dry breadcrumbs. Deep fry in hot oil until the balls are golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper before serving hot.
