Meatballs in Tomato and Garlic Sauce Recipe

Ingredients :

Meatballs

350 grams

Sauce

1 tablespoon

1 cup

1/2 teaspoon

2 cups

1 teaspoon

1 teaspoon

1/2 teaspoon

1/4 teaspoon

Mince (beef or veal)

Sausage meat

Grated Parmesan cheese

Chopped parsley

Garlic paste

Chopped fresh lime peel

Salt

Black pepper powder

Powdered allspice

Bread crumbled

Egg, lightly beaten

Oil for deep frying

 

 

Olive oil

Chopped onions

Chopped garlic

Fresh tomato puree

Salt

Sugar

Red chili powder

Black pepper powder

Bay leaves

Dried basil

Dried oregano

Method :
  • Mix all ingredients for meatballs except oil.

  • Knead well and roll into balls, 3 1/2cm in diameter.

  • Place on a tray, cover with foil and chill for 30 minutes.

  • Heat oil for deep frying in a deep frying pan and fry meatballs till golden brown.

  • Drain and place on kitchen paper to absorb excess oil.

  • Heat oil for sauce in a pan, add onions and fry for 7-8 minutes.

  • Add garlic and fry for a few moments longer.

  • Mix in remaining ingredients and cook over low heat for 20-25 minutes.

  • Strain sauce into another pan, add meatballs and heat through.

  • Serve immediately while hot with 250 grams boiled pasta or spaghetti.

Note : Pasta must be cooked in plenty of boiling, salted water, to which 1 teaspoon oil is added, till just tender.
