Dutch Forcemeat Balls Recipe

(Frikkadels)

Ingredients : Makes about 40

1/4 teaspoon

1/4 teaspoon

1 clove

1/2 teaspoon

2 teaspoons

Butter

Small onion, finely chopped

Minced steak

Soft white breadcrumbs

Salt

Ground black pepper

Chopped fresh dill

Ground cinnamon

Ground cloves

Garlic, crushed

Finely grated fresh ginger

Worcestershire sauce or lemon juice

Egg, beaten

Dry breadcrumbs for coating

Oil or ghee for deep frying

Method :
  • Heat butter in a small frying pan and gently fry onion until soft.

  • Combine with minced steak, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, chopped dill, cinnamon, cloves, garlic, ginger and Worcestershire sauce.

  • Mix thoroughly and shape into small balls about 2.5 cm in diameter.

  • Dip into beaten egg and coat with dry breadcrumbs.

  • Deep fry in hot oil until golden brown.

  • Drain on absorbent paper before serving.
