Onion Bhaji Recipe

Ingredients :

3/4 cup chick pea flour

1/2 cup plain flour

1 1/2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda

1.5 teaspoon chili powder

1 egg, beaten lightly

1 1/4 cups water

4 large onion, halved and sliced thinly

4 cloves garlic, chopped

Oil for shallow frying


Method :

Sift the plain flour, bicarbonate of soda and chili powder into a bowl. Make a small hole in the center and pour in the combined egg and water. Stir to make a smooth creamy batter. Add more water if required. Add the garlic and onion. Mix well. Heat a wok with oil of about 1 cm deep. Drop in tablespoons of the mixture and press into patties. Fry the onion bhaji on both sides until golden brown and thoroughly cooked. Drain on absorbent papers. Serve immediately while still hot with some chili sauce.
