Mexican Style Chili Beef Recipe

Ingredients : Serves 4

30 ml/2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic dove, crushed
350 g/12 oz minced (ground) beef

2.5 ml/0.5 tsp ground cumin
5 ml/1 tsp chili powder (or to taste)

100 g/4 oz button mushrooms, sliced

250 ml/8 fl oz/1 cup passata (sieved tomatoes)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method :

Heat the oil and fry (saute) the onion and garlic until just soft. Add the mince and fry until browned. Stir in the cumin and chili power to taste, then add the mushrooms and passata. Bring to a simmer and simmer gently for about 20 minutes until the sauce has thickened. Taste and season with salt and pepper, if necessary.
