Brandy Apple Doughnuts Recipe

Ingredients : Serves 4

3 eating (dessert) apples, peeled, cored and thickly sliced
15 ml/1 tbsp brandy or rum
250 ml/8 fl oz/1 cup warm water

45 ml/3 tbsp condensed milk

A pinch of salt
1 egg, separated
225 g/8 oz/2 cups plain (all-purpose) flour
2.5 ml/0.5 tsp baking powder

Corn oil, for deep-frying
Caster sugar and ground cinnamon, for sprinkling

Method :

Lay the apples on a plate, sprinkle with the brandy or rum and leave to soak for 15 minutes. Mix together the water, condensed milk, salt and egg yolk, then whisk in the flour and baking powder. Whisk the egg white until stiff, then fold it into the mixture to make a very thick batter. Dip the apple slices in the batter, then fry (saute) in deep hot oil for about 4 minutes until golden brown. Drain well on kitchen paper (paper towels) and serve sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon.
